since i am opening a handmade boutique, i am often asked about my own creative talent. “unfortunately, i have none” is my typical reply. i suppose this is not entirely true. i am good with color, scale, proportion and fairly handy when it comes to most tools of the trade. i tend to copy a lot of wonderfully talented artists and am pretty damn good at it!
natalie chanin, of alabama chanin, is someone whom i admire and whose work i often emulate. but it is just that…hers. some like to say that they are “inspired” by someone else’s work. what does that mean exactly? it should mean that one draws inspiration from another’s work and then makes it their own. often, it does not. i would love to say that i am “inspired” by natalie’s work but the truth is, i am inspired to copy her work. everything she touches is fabulous in my eyes! sure, i may play with the colors or the pattern, but the reality is, she deserves the credit. so…here are a couple of chairs i did for the shop, ”inspired by alabama chanin” …thanks natalie!

Beth,
Natalie Channin is actually from florence…i don’t know her but her stuff is very cool! Good luck with your new endeavours!!
Seems there are a lot of great people that hail from Florence, AL.
I have not yet had a chance to attend a workshop at her studio in Florence but did get to meet Natalie at a workshop in Chattanooga. She is a true reflection of her company (Alabama Chanin)…kind, spiritual and authentic…someone to emulate. She is actually coming to the indie-pendent to do a workshop…you should come up and meet her! Also, are you familiar with Billy Reid? He is another brilliant talent from Florence, AL. Miss you guys!
