Luminology
Luminology was created by Angela Sands in 2010 after realizing there was a need for thoughtfully designed candles in the marketplace. “I’ve always been creative, but I’d been craving something that I could do with my hands. I was looking for something to bring to life – out of the creative ideas in my mind into the marketplace. Something made with high-quality ingredients that had a meaningful use and was, above all, beautiful.” Out of a flood of creative energy and vision, Luminology was born.
With over 13 years experience in graphic and web design, Angela brought her clean modern aesthetic to the soy candles she created. Inspired by oversized cement fire pits, popular in modern landscape design, she designed a miniature version using porcelain as the vessel and scented soy wax as the fuel. A large wooden wick adds to the fire pit feel as it softly crackles, resulting in a unique and natural candle that engages multiple senses.
Luminology’s soy candles are perfect for sustainable living. Since the vessels can be refilled or reused there is minimal waste. “It was important to me to create a vessel for the candles that could be reused instead of tossed into the garbage can. Something you would want to hold on to and use in your everyday life – even if only to admire.” Made with pure ingredients and minimal packaging, the candles are an expression of restraint and a less is more ideology. “People are drawn to them and are totally fascinated by their beauty and simplicity. I love watching their eyes light up when they experience Luminology for the first time!”
Angela lives with her husband and two children in Davenport, Iowa.
